Back to Bloggin'

I was looking for some photos of Rusty the other day and came to this blog to find them.  As I spent some time scrolling through old posts I realized what a super place this used to be for "journaling" my families adventures, even the small adventures.  And even though I stopped blogging more than a year ago we have done a couple, two or three things to pass the time since then.  My hope is to start blogging again.  I think it will take me awhile to get back onto the blog bandwagon and I will just stick to one blog and not try and do all three (or four).

This past Sunday we had a day free of basketball games, off season softball training, and baseball training -which is pretty rare for us.  I was content to stay home in my jambones all day and veg on the couch, maybe even take down the Christmas tree (don't judge).  However, Sunday was Winterfest at Mendon Ponds Park!  Winterfest is really fantastic especially when there is snow and Mendon Ponds is literally in our front yard so we bundled everyone up and headed there to check out the hap-hap-happenings.  The kids, even though they are all teenagers, are still up for pretty much anything as long as it isn't too early in the morning.

We had a need to stop at Wild Wings while we were there to get some more information about owls.  Lately we can hear an owl outside of our bedroom windows at night and were are anxious to figure out what kind of owl it is.  We search with a very strong flash light at night but have yet to see him.  The helpful volunteers at Wild Wings suggested we stop looking up and instead look down under the tree for the pellets (owl poop) and then look up.  Duh!  We also remembered to bring a bag full of bird seed to see if the birds would land on our hands to feed while walking down our favorite Bird Song Trail.  I know that I have blogged before about doing this activity, but it just never gets old for me, or the kids.  This time on the trail, even though it was loaded with people and it was later in the morning, the birds were still plentiful.  It has been bitter cold this winter and they must have been very hungry.  The kids were able to get the chickadees, the nuthatches and even the tufted titmice to land on their hands and even on Tim's hat.

Lucky for us a Barred Owl named Hunter decided to Hoot Hoot while we were there.  Actually he said, "Who cooks for you?" Who cooks for you?" which is exactly what wakes us up out of a deep sleep in the big pine trees in our front yard.

Beautiful kids with great attitudes!  It makes any thing we do fun.

Saw-Whet owl " Blaze" was hit by a car :-(

Red Tailed Hawk named Amber.

Melinda, a barn owl looks lovely but screeches!

She was raised as a breeder owl but disliked the boys! LOL

Gerhard, a Great Horned Owl is very wise...obviously!

A nuthatch on Tim's hat.

Tim feeds two at a time!

I love the cardinals!

Tim is very patient.  Notice the crowds of people on this day?!

The birds just love Jack.
