In our house we have birthday traditions. In addition to a special birthday dinner and use of the "red plate", you also get a cake with your name on it and we sing to you. After making a wish, you blow out your own candles.
These are small, but important traditions in our house.
Jack and Tim celebrated their 10th birthday over the weekend. Just as Tim was set to blow out his candles, Daddy told a funny story about how Hannah (the kid's cousin) set her cake on fire one year with a gummy bear, drink umbrella and trick candles. Timmy's candle blowing was an "epic fail", as Molly would say, because he was laughing so hard. This, in turn, sent Jack into fits of giggles.
The pictures are priceless.

| Make a wish, Tim! |

| Make a wish, Jack! |
| Ready, set, blow! |
| Uh oh, you laughed in the middle of that! |
| Try again! Now blow, silly! |
| It's funny when your twin can't blow out the candles! |
| Okay, really, try again Timmy. We'll stop laughing along with you. |
| Or maybe not. Maybe Jack can't stop the giggles. |
| Still three candles lit, Tim, try again buddy! |
| But, really, you have to stop laughing first. |
| Take a deep breath! |
| Yipee! Finally success. Happy Birthday boys. |
Remind me to show them the charred little pink drink umbrella I saved!
